The Trip that was: October 20, 2009/2017/2018

 2009

PanBos. Walking through the woods, and dunes, and onward to the beach at Katwijk! Along the way, you have to stop and play soccer, climb trees, watch people catching shrimp and inspect their catch,  and do a bit of bird-watching.

2017

Back to sharing photos of paintings, but I would be remiss if I didn't share a couple of works byanother of my favorite artists that you've likely never heard of, Jan Sluiters.

And on a day, that turned into an evening, that looked like this, you need all the light and color and vibrancy you can find.  Or  a cozy restaurant with a warm fire and a nice view will work, too.

2018

A coffee with friends before leaving Friesland, and Bakkeveen (not Friesland!) behind. Frisian (Fryske) coffee is with a shot of Sonnema Berenburg liqour in it and a head of very thick whipped cream.  It's delicious! Sonnema Berenburg is a heavily spiced jenever, bitter and warming.  The coffee is served with a Fryske Dumkes-- a Frisian cookie made with finely chopped hazelnuts, ginger, cinnamon and lots of anise seed.  My favorite Dutch recipe blog has a wonderful recipe for Fryske Dumkes if you're interested!
