The Trip that was: October 16, 2017

Bruges.  Canals, cobblestones, romantic old-world charm.  Small, quaint, walkable.

We stayed in a "hotel" called de Loft. (The stepped roof building at the end of the street!) It is a former lace school, built in the 1920's. We found out later that Dutchboy's Mum took classes and stayed at the school! How random is that?!?!? The current owners, live on the property and rent out four rooms. There is a seperate entrance for guests, so it's not a true bed and breakfast. It's reasonably priced, clean, and quiet. They owners were so nice, and the location was fantastic.

But I have to admit, the layout is a bit quirky.

You look over the bedroom wall into the bathroom.  There's no ceiling, it's open to the bedroom above.  If you've got a bathroom privacy hangup, don't stay in this room.

I guess people had issues with their color choices, too, because they have since re-done the bathroom with sedate, and boring, beige tile. Still open concept though.

The narrow lane leading to our hotel.

Yes, we had a map.  But Dutchboy has to get his GPS to triangulate.  It's NECESSARY. And it was. We got terribly lost one night in Bruges.  We couldn't find where we were on the map, and couldn't get GPS to work.  We thought we might never find the hotel again!

This sign still makes me laugh.

Life finds a way.
