The Trip that was: September 27, 2008, 2012, 2013, 2016,2017, 2019

2008
Now arriving in....DELFT!

Vermeer is buried here. But they aren't sure exactly where he is buried, since his grave was unmarked.  Both of these markers were placed much more recently.

Also buried here Antonie Van Leeuwenhoek.  The marker reads:
Here rests Anthony van Leeuwenhoek
oldest member of the Royal society in London
Born in the city of Delft on 24th of October 1632
and died on the 26th of August 1723
at the age of 90 years, 10 months and 2 days
to the reader
that all walker (maybe visitor..?) have respect for high age and great gifts (or talent)
so place your step respectfully
here lies the gray science buried in Leeuwenhoek

Stadhuis (City hall)

The Crypt of William of Orange (aka William the Silent).  Don't worry, not even the Dutch can keep all their Royal Williams apart.  But what you should know is that since that time, all Dutch Royalty has been buried in the crypts beneath this church.

Another  Royal William-- the grave of Willem I.

Dutchboy climbed the tower.  I happily let him and stayed behind.

WE let Delft that evening and headed to the beach at Katwijk to meet the family for dinner at one of the restaurants on the beach. The motley crew.

2012
Touring a couple of grand canal houses in Amsterdam.
My first photo of Paris, City of Lights.

A short video, standing on Pont Neuf.

2016
First night in Vienna! A city I am completely enchanted by and want to return to again. Again, we had an evening arrival, had supper and spent the evening walking along the Danube.

Graffiti under the bridge.

No, the peopel weren't fleeing in terror of the Dutchboy.  There was some sort of charity run.

2017
Not Europe this time but a super early flight out of Charlotte to Boston, to pick up an Aer Lingus flight to Dublin .  Dutchboy took a nap while we waited on our 6:00 am flight.

This trip was memorable because we had a long layover in Boston, and decided to see some of the city.

At one point, I took my bag off (remember this. It's important!) and took a photo.

We moved on to Boston Harbor.

After taking the following picture, I went to put the camera away and realized I walked off without my purse! My identification. My PASSPORT.  Left in a city park in Boston.  I didn't realize it for at least 20 minutes or more.  Dutchboy RAN back to the park and miraculously it was there!!! I was in tears, and blind panic.

After all that drama, I'm happy to say the vacation went just fine!!

2019
Zutphen.  We spent the morning at Museum More in Gorssel, but I won't bore you with photos of paintings. Then we drove though a little town called Zutphen and stopped to take a ramble and grab a coffee.

We were with Dutch's eldest sister, and she remembered a music musuem in Zutphen, so we paid a visit to Geelvinck Muziek Museum.  Luckily, it was mostly pianos, NOT guitars.

And the had the smallest music museum in the world on display!

If you're interested in seeing more of the museum, you can take a virtual tour.

Before heading back home for the night, we stopped in at a pancake house  in Epe, named  De Ossenstal.  We've eaten there before and they have delicious pancakes! I always get mine topped with cheese and bacon. Mmmmm.

Now, that's about enough for one day, isn't it?

Tot Ziens!!
