The Trip that was: October 1, 2010/2012/2014/2015/2019

 2010

The first time I met Spike the Cat in Bakkeveen,  I called him Hitler. He was not amused.

2012

Here comes the ferry to carry us away from Texel! I've noticed that SO many pictures from Holland are gray and rainy.  I'm starting to feel waterlogged!

After arriving back on the mainland, we stopped in Edam on the way home. AT least I THINK it is Edam. It's certainly picturesque enough to be!

2014
A few images from a morning canal cruise in Delft.

And an afternoon in Maassluis.  Sluis means "lock" in Dutch, so this is a lock on the river Maas. We had other reasons to visit-- something about Mum's family is from there, and someone in the family had a butcher shop?! I don't remember those details.  I do remember there was ice cream involved, and it was very tasty.

Ah, yes. The butcher shop. Nice piggy, cute piggy, little ball of fat...

Sweet piggy, tasty piggy, dip you in a vat....Shhh. Don't tell the piggy they sell housemade leverworst (liverwurst).

2015
Morning was spent in Dordrecht

The old city gate of Dordrecht

But the afternoon was spent at a World Unesco Heritage site, Kinderdijk!!!  The site has 19 windmills, and a maze of waterways.  It is one of the prettiest places, especially on a sunny afternoon.  We had the most fun taking photos--primarily of Dutchboy and his sister (and me, too) running, jumping and skipping like crazy people.   This place inspires those Sound of Music type moments.

Look it's a flying Dutchboy!

2019

Restaurant Marhaba in Drachten.  We visited our friends in the wilds of Bakkeveen and they always find some great new restaurant for us to try.  This time, it was a Mediterranean restaurant in Drachten.  The food was great and the atmosphere was perfect for an Egypt lover like me! And the giant Anubis that greats you on the way to the toilets isn't intimidating at all.  Nope nope nope.

I love a starched, perfectly folded napkin.
